How often do you set a goal of competing in a BJJ Tournament and eventually, your goal falls off because you procrastinated your weight cut, you feel you didn’t train hard enough or you simply forgot to sign up?
Don’t worry , we all have been there, here’s why Signing Up ASAP will help your motivation kick in and your brain stay laser focus on the goal!
Sign Up Early, Stay Motivated!
Bola Onada Sokunbi is a the CEO and founder of Clever Girl Finance and a well known accountability coach, often writes about setting goals and achieving them in her Blog.
One of the main reasons why, some of our goals simply fall off is the lack of accountability due to setting big goals and keeping them private, according to Sokunbi:
“Most goals people set are not achieved because they are not held accountable for them. When goals are made in private they tend to fall off because people stop being motivated, stop focusing and stop prioritizing.” — Bola Onada Sokunbi
If your goal is to compete a Jiu Jitsu tournament, getting a gold medal or simply getting better at Jiu Jitsu, you won’t achieve this goal by procrastinating to sign up.
Signing Up early makes you accountable for that goal, and even more if you tell your teammates about this, publish your goal in social media or share it with your coach.
Sharing a goal with a community will motivate you to achieve it, after all your coach, teammates and friends want to see you achieve your goals!
Keep Calm and Carry On
If you sign Up early for a Tournament and share it with a community, you will stay motivated to achieve the goal, but what’s next?
First Prioritize your training! now that you are ready to go, you have to focus on your training, keep in mind that competing will probably require some extra physical preparation, it could even require you to do a small weight cut, and you have to plan for it.
Start your weight cut with time, weight yourself often and overall stay focused on eating healthy and staying hydrated, doing this will avoid that unhealthy water cut! You’ll be able to feel like a superhero before, during and after your matches!
Your Accountability Partner
According to NBA Hall of Fame basketball player Joe Dumars:
“On good teams, coaches hold players accountable. On great teams, players hold players accountable.”
If after all you are still lacking motivation or you want an extra motivation boost, convince a partner to sign up for the tournament and make him/her your accountability partner.
This means that you will help each other stay focused on the right training, eating healthy and staying in your weight bracket! Having someone to hold you accountable of your goal will keep you focused on the right path.
However, before you can hold another teammate accountable, you must first be willing to accept full responsibility for your own goals and actions.
